The aim of this series of measurements is to investigate the load of passengers in buses and coaches in different types of accidents.
Prior to the tests, the boundary conditions for the impact impulse of different accident types were determined. First, real crash experiments were performed and then validation runs were performed using Carat 3 crash simulation software based on the data from these experiments. Subsequently, based on the results of the real tests and validation simulations, further simulations were performed under different boundary conditions (velocity, impact direction, crash partner, etc.). The impact pulses of the test series were determined by taking into account the real tests, the simulations, and various crash test standards.
Based on the test results, standard injury criteria and indices that characterize and categorize the severity of injuries (AIS - Abbreviated Injury Scale) are defined.
By evaluating the impact tests, simulations and impulse tests, we determine relationships between the likely injuries of the occupants and the forces acting on the vehicle. These correlations will inform the BlackBox system so that it will be able to determine, based on an algorithm, the likely injury severity of the occupants of the crashed vehicle, facilitating the appropriate rescue of the occupants.
