International Regulations provide the basis of legal demands on electronic systems for active safety, especially ECE R13, R13-H and R79 for braking and steering. “Old” requirements for conventional systems fully apply as appropriate. But additional “new” requirements cover the special aspects of electronic systems. Complex electronic systems (such as ESP or ACC) can be type approved according to a new Annex which describes special requirements for their safety aspects with a special emphasis on the documentation of the safety concept and its analysis, e.g. by FMEA.
