Probability Analysis and Uncertainty Theory: Useful Methods for the Reconstruction Expert

Abstract

In this paper, an overview of well-known and lesser-known stochastic methods that can support the expert in accident reconstruction is given. While maintaining the required brevity, various methods from the fields of statistics, probability and random theory are explained and their possible applications are discussed.

The introduction addresses the expert's motivation for becoming involved in this area of mathematics. A brief literature review lists some useful sources. The subsequent chapter on the mathematical background deals with continuous and discrete probability. Then, the concept of uncertainty is discussed in detail. In the last chapter, several application examples are presented. The bibliography lists the sources for further study of this topic.
