Currently, most vehicles are still equipped with halogen headlights. The main components of halogen headlights are a reflector, a halogen filament lamp and a cover lens or diffuser. Over time, the headlight cover lens or the reflector can get tarnished by external contact with road debris and other particles and thus become cloudy.
We investigated whether any tarnishing of the headlight cover lens, in the following referred to as headlight cloudiness, has an impact on the ability to detect a pedestrian and if so, in which way.
