In the course of a diploma thesis the parameters of lane changes of heavy goods vehicles were obtained. Average, minimal and maximum results for lateral acceleration, the duration and length of lane change were determined, as well as the possible path of the lane changing.
A further aim of the research was to find out how traffic to the rear on the overtaking lane could recognize the beginning of the lane change of the HGV. This, however, cannot be precisely ascertained and can only be narrowed down within a certain framework.
