The Allianz Center for Technology (AZT) is actively involved in several international projects relating ADAS and Automated Driving (e.g. L3Pilot, P.E.A.R.S, RCAR) dealing with SAE Level 1 to Level 5. In this context the targets of the paper are firstly to demonstrate the impact potential and benefits that can be expected from ADAS. Therefore the efficiency and the limits of warning systems and autonomous emergency braking systems in passenger cars will be shown on the basis of ex-post analyses. Secondly, in conjunction with automobile manufacturers, suppliers and universities, the AZT has conducted research of automated driving functions on the basis of in-depth accident data-bases with more than 15,000 claims. Furthermore, risks and challenges are currently collaboratively investigated in the EU Project L3Pilot by field operational tests and desk top studies. First results are presented. Thirdly, a group of accident reconstruction experts (AHEAD) have investigated thor-oughly the relevant accident data model and trigger performance of an EDR which are necessary for vehicles with L3+ functions.
